FERRARI
Expansion of the Ferrari Museum 2013
To cope with an increasingly large audience eager to get in touch with the most famous Italian excellence globally, Ferrari wanted to expand its museum in Maranello to make it even more usable and welcoming.
The proposed intervention is about 1000 square meters of new built surface. It modifies the South elevation of the museum of the famous Maranello car manufacturer, trying to respect the lines, shapes, materials, and colours that characterize the Rampant Horse cars and the existing building and integrate them as much as possible. The cafeteria has been moved to a more visible and accessible position for the public of fans visiting the spectacular exhibitions at the Red Museum in Maranello.
The almost entirely glazed external volume features a red Alucobond cladding on one side, both on the West and North sides. Given the increase in tourist turnout - today, the Ferrari Museum hosts more than 200,000 visitors a year and is the most visited museum in Emilia Romagna -
the intervention required the rescale of commercial and receptive spaces and services. In fact, the project envisaged an increase in essential services like the locker room for professionals. An extension of the back bar and warehouse area has been planned.
The intervention was carried out over approximately six months, from November 2012 to May 2013, and did not involve any closing day of the museum. This was possible thanks to the careful planning of activities and equally careful management of the construction site for the entire duration of the work. The expertise and know-how gained on these kinds of projects by Archilinea over the years have made a difference allowing the operations to be carried out in total safety for the workforce and avoiding any inconvenience for visitors.
