Modula

Italia

Modula S.p.A. entrusted Archilinea with the integrated design of its new Experience Center: a 35,000 sqm industrial hub in Fiorano Modenese designed to merge operational efficiency with architectural identity. Located strategically along the Modena-Sassuolo highway, the project serves as a "calling card" for the district, responding to complex technical requirements with specific solutions. The design focuses on three key priorities: maximizing production functionality, establishing a strong corporate presence, and ensuring high energy performance through environmental sustainability.

Concept

The project establishes a dialogue between industry and landscape, where the “green hill” becomes the pivotal element. This soft undulation acts as a natural filter between the infrastructure and the new volumes, creating an ecological corridor that traverses the entire site. The stepped pattern of the industrial facades mirrors the plot’s morphology, transforming a site constraint into a distinctive architectural feature. Large continuous glazing on the western front facilitates a constant indoor-outdoor connection, allowing greenery to permeate the workspaces and creating a model where production is harmoniously integrated into the landscape.

PROJECT

The technical challenge was addressed through a structural system that combines construction efficiency with plant-engineering flexibility. The structure features prefabricated reinforced concrete with 80x80cm columns on a regular 18x18m grid, topped by multifunctional "omega" beams.

These beams integrate structural support with utility housing: the internal cavity accommodates all MEP lines (power, compressed air, heating), while the flanges support the crane rails. This solution optimizes floor space and simplifies maintenance. Through 3D coordination and BIM-oriented management, Archilinea monitored interferences in real-time, ensuring immediate adaptations to the site’s progress. The result is a building achieving A4 energy certification, balancing environmental performance with industrial excellence.

INTERIORS

Archilinea approached the interior spaces with the same attention to detail as a residential project, prioritizing environmental comfort and psychological well-being. The office floors overlook the production area, ensuring visual and operational continuity between management and manufacturing. Large windows flood the spaces with natural light, while garden niches integrated into the facades bring nature directly into the workspace. The design also seamlessly integrates the 30-meter-high vertical warehouse, transforming a functional necessity into a defining architectural landmark.

APPROACH

The Modula complex serves as a benchmark for the industrial sector, proving that production efficiency and architectural quality are mutually inclusive. Over a three-year construction period, Archilinea managed a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-performance 35,000 sqm facility that embodies the studio's commitment to methodological and ethical continuity.
