Architecture for Healthcare and the Community: The New Community Hospital in Maranello Officially Opens

A 1,200 sqm healthcare facility serving the Ceramic District, created through the synergy of PNRR funding, local institutions, and forward-thinking design.

On Friday, 17 July 2026, the official inauguration ceremony of the new Community Hospital (OSCO) for the Ceramic District took place. The facility is located on Via Cappella in the hamlet of Gorzano, Maranello. The event was attended by leading institutional and healthcare representatives from the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Province of Modena, including Regional President Michele de Pascale, Regional Councillor for Health Policies Massimo Fabi, AUSL Modena Director General Mattia Altini, Director of the Sassuolo Health District Federica Ronchetti, the Mayor of Maranello Luigi Zironi, and the Mayor of Sassuolo Matteo Mesini.

An architectural bridge between hospital and home

Designed by Archilinea, the new OSCO responds to the growing demand for intermediate and community-based healthcare services. Covering a gross floor area of approximately 1,200 square metres, the facility accommodates 15 inpatient beds for patients who no longer require high-intensity hospital care but still need continuous medical assistance, rehabilitation treatments, or support in managing healthcare devices before returning home. The design of both the indoor and outdoor spaces was guided by the principle of humanising healthcare. Rational, flexible, and light-filled environments maximise operational efficiency for healthcare professionals while providing patients with a comfortable, safe, and reassuring setting throughout their stay.

Financial synergy and a shared territorial vision

The project represents a total investment of more than €4.2 million, made possible largely through Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR – Mission 6: Health), supplemented by AUSL corporate funding. The project also highlights the value of territorial collaboration. The Municipality of Maranello granted the land surface rights free of charge and carried out the urbanisation works, with the essential support of Fondazione di Modena and Ferrari S.p.A.

The value of healthcare design for Archilinea

With the completion of the new Community Hospital in Maranello, Archilinea reaffirms its commitment to designing and delivering public and healthcare infrastructures that create both social and architectural value for the community. Designing for community healthcare means interpreting ongoing social and demographic changes and transforming them into sustainable, efficient, and people-centred architecture that responds to the evolving needs of local communities.
